The Ballroom on the first floor is one of the oldest parts of the building. When it was first built in 1796 as the Sydney Hotel, it was described as an ‘elegant, superb and airy’ ballroom overlooking the grandeur of Great Pulteney Street.
Today, it displays some of the museum’s collection of 17th and 18th-century painting and decorative art including sculptures, ceramics, silver and paintings.
Highlights include the Diana and Actaeon majolica dish, a chamber pot, and Casali’s Spring and Summer paintings as part of our permanent Collection displays.
We also install temporary exhibitions in the Ballroom in the Spring and Autumn seasons.
