The Holburne is proud to present one of Britain’s most important contemporary ceramic artists, Richard Slee. This exhibition brings together his major work Sunlit Uplands which will be displayed throughout the ballroom, whilst a collection of new and recent works will be shown in further galleries. In his work, there are references to the decorative, the ornamental and the symbolic; both from past histories and within contemporary culture. These sources are often eclectic, brought together to explore new meanings and dramas. For now, they are resolved – as the medium of ceramics permanently fixes them – but, as always, the meaning remains fluid.
