Our Turner is Back!

Our Turner is Back!

JMW Turner’s atmospheric watercolour of Pembroke Castle, one of the most popular works in the Holburne collection, goes back on display this week after a long absence. The picture, made around 1829, is one of eight in the touring exhibition Turner: Watercolours from the West, which opens this Saturday, 10 January and closes on 8 March.

The Holburne’s Turner is rarely displayed because, as a watercolour on paper, it is particularly sensitive to damage from light. Thanks to the tour organised by the Frameworks partnership, it has already been enjoyed by visitors to the exhibition in Bristol and Swindon during 2014. Pembroke Castle will travel on to Cheltenham for the final leg of the Watercolours from the West tour, opening at The Wilson on 13 March.
