Dear Gentle Reader, have you ever wondered what’s inside Lady Danbury’s House?
You may recognise the façade of the Holburne museum as the location for many of Lady Danbury’s lavish balls.
The real-life location is the Holburne Museum in Bath, one of the UK’s finest regional museums.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row height=”huge” us_bg_image_source=”media” us_bg_image=”24117″ us_bg_parallax=”still”][vc_column link=”%7B%22url%22%3A%22%22%7D” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22font-weight%22%3A%22600%22%2C%22padding-left%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-top%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-bottom%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-right%22%3A%2220px%22%7D%7D” width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column us_bg_overlay_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.85)” link=”%7B%22url%22%3A%22%22%7D” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22padding-left%22%3A%2230px%22%2C%22padding-top%22%3A%2230px%22%2C%22padding-bottom%22%3A%2230px%22%2C%22padding-right%22%3A%2230px%22%7D%7D” width=”2/3″][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22font-weight%22%3A%22600%22%7D%7D”]The building hasn’t always been a museum however – it started life as The Sydney Hotel, built at the end of the 18th century to preside over Great Pulteney Street and provide the gateway for the Sydney Pleasure Gardens, where crowds gathered to ‘promenade’ and dine in the open air.
The building frequently hosted balls and festivities, and would have been the talk of the ton in Regency Bath.
Queen Charlotte herself stayed opposite the Sydney Hotel on Sydney Place when she came to Bath ‘to take the waters’ in 1817, which were believed to help a variety of health conditions.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
TREASURES FIT FOR A QUEEN

A MODERN MUSEUM
The Holburne Museum also presents a programme of contemporary exhibitions, setting the art of the past in new and dynamic ways. This summer, you can see watercolours by one of Britain’s greatest artists, JMW Turner, and his contemporaries, alongside the exciting work of contemporary Swiss artist Nicolas Party.
Don’t miss the chance to see inside this extraordinary museum on your visit to Bath.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row us_bg_overlay_color=”#eeeeee”][vc_column width=”1/3″][us_iconbox icon=”fas|calendar” link=”%7B%22url%22%3A%22%22%7D” title=”Open Daily” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22background-color%22%3A%22%23fff%22%2C%22padding-left%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-top%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-bottom%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-right%22%3A%2220px%22%7D%7D”]The Museum is open daily 10am – 5pm (11am on Sundays and Bank Holidays)[/us_iconbox][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][us_iconbox icon=”fas|leaf” link=”%7B%22url%22%3A%22%22%7D” title=”Garden Cafe” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22background-color%22%3A%22%23fff%22%2C%22padding-left%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-top%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-bottom%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-right%22%3A%2220px%22%7D%7D”]The Garden Cafe overlooks the historic Syndey Pleasure Gardens, which Jane Austen regularly visited during her time in the city[/us_iconbox][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][us_iconbox icon=”fas|landmark” link=”%7B%22url%22%3A%22%22%7D” title=”Museum Shop” css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22background-color%22%3A%22%23fff%22%2C%22padding-left%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-top%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-bottom%22%3A%2220px%22%2C%22padding-right%22%3A%2220px%22%7D%7D”]Our beautiful museum shop includes a range of unique Bridgerton inspired gifts and souvenirs[/us_iconbox][/vc_column][/vc_row]
