Bath Spa University Engagement

We are proud to have a strong relationship with Bath Spa University, supporting their students to build on their creative practices and encourage their involvement with the creative sector.

Supporting Emerging Designers

We invite students to respond to the collection and site through an annual Live Brief, offering a valuable opportunity to create place-based designs for a museum context.
Through site visits, access to collections, and input from our Learning & Engagement and Curatorial teams, students gain first-hand insight into how to present their designs to the public. This project reflects our commitment to nurturing young creatives by providing practical, real-world experience in designing meaningful, functional souvenirs connected to place.
MA Dance

Students are invited to respond to the historical collection and building through creating site-specific choreographed dance pieces which they show-case as part of Party in the City – the opening of Bath Festival. Over the last 10 years we have enjoyed seeing our galleries and public spaces re-animated through dance and physical performances.
MA Fine Art

Every year students create a pop-up exhibition (Play the Museum) of artworks and interventions responding to themes and ideas from our collection and site.
Their work often explores new ways of seeing and interpreting, making links between historical objects and contemporary issues as well as highlighting marginalised histories and drawing attention to the unnoticed or overlooked. Through onsite visits, shared learning and a panel of museum staff, students are supported to develop and exhibit their work alongside our 18th century collection.
