Past Exhibition Catalogue

‘Silver: Light and Shade’ explores the unique properties of an extraordinary material. It celebrates the complexity – the light and shade – of silver’s lustrous surface. Silver has long been associated with status and grandeur as well as function. Working in silver involves many extraordinary technical achievements by makers skilfully using heat, chemistry and design to create works of art from this ‘noble’ metal. Combining silver with other materials to form alloys, using tools and applying chemicals or enamels to its surface can transform it beyond recognition.
