The Holburne Museum in Bath, known world-wide as the filming location for ‘Lady Danbury’s House’ in Bridgerton, has launched a new audio tour voiced by the actor Adjoa Andoh who plays Lady Danbury in the hit Netflix series.
The world of Bridgerton may be fictional, but the true history of Bath’s Georgian heyday is every bit as fascinating. Adjoa Andoh’s voice will guide visitors around the Holburne, focusing on 12 objects in the museum’s collection which bring Georgian Bath to life, including:
- A portrait of Queen Charlotte, then aged 21, by the painter Johan Zoffany. The Queen stayed on Sydney Place next to the museum when she came to Bath to take the waters in 1817.
- An 18th century snuffbox in the form of a lady’s shoe, the likes of which would have been used in elegant social circles as an indication of one’s social status (Queen Charlotte herself was known as ‘Old Snuffy’ for her prolific snuff-taking habit!)
- A miniature silhouette portrait by Danish artist Charles Christian Rosenberg, who arrived in Britain as a page to Queen Charlotte. Miniature portraits became the perfect memento for crowds that arrived in Bath for the Season in the 18th
Visitors to the Museum can download the audio tour from Bloomberg Connects, a free digital guide that makes it easy to engage with arts and culture from mobile devices.
Chris Stephens, Director of the Holburne said: “We were honoured to work with Adjoa Andoh, whose inimitable voice brings to life the remarkable history which surrounds us. We are proud of our association with Bridgerton which puts a 21st century spin on 18th century society. We’ve seen hundreds of visitors take a selfie outside the building and we hope this new audio tour will entice them inside to explore Bath’s Georgian past through our eclectic and beautiful historic collection.”
The audio tour has been created with the support of Imagineear and Bloomberg.
