SUMMARY:Unsuitable: The History of Lesbian Fashion with Eleanor Medhurst
DESCRIPTION:Part of Queer Bath 2026 \nFashion has always been about more than clothes. It can signal identity\, belonging and resistance. Yet the history of lesbian style has often been overlooked or erased. \nJoin historian and writer Eleanor Medhurst for an in conversation event exploring her acclaimed book Unsuitable: A History of Lesbian Fashion. Drawing on figures such as Anne Lister and tracing stories from Sappho and the Suffragettes to butch and femme bar culture and contemporary queer style\, Medhurst uncovers a rich history of coded dress\, defiance and self-expression. \nUnsuitable restores lesbian fashion to the centre of cultural history\, recognising the diversity of Black lesbian style\, trans lesbian histories and gender nonconformity across centuries. \nWhile Unsuitable painstakingly traces the style aspect\, it also examines the reasons lesbian fashion has been lost to history. While homophobia against women is nothing new\, Medhurst underscores how it even permeates the fashion world.’ — Vogue \nThe event will take the form of a live conversation\, followed by an audience Q&A. Expect insight\, honesty and a fresh way of looking at fashion as a powerful archive of lesbian life. \n  \nAbout the author \nEleanor Medhurst is a historian of queer fashion and culture and author of the blog Dressing Dykes. She has worked on Brighton Museum’s exhibitions Queer Looks and Queer the Pier\, and is pursuing a PhD in lesbian craft history at the University of Brighton.

SUMMARY:Morocco (1930) + Panel Discussion: Marlene Dietrich\, Gender and Defiance
DESCRIPTION:Part of Queer Bath 2026\nPresented by FilmBath \nJoin us for a special screening of Morocco (1930) and a post-film discussion exploring Marlene Dietrich’s boundary-breaking legacy as one of cinema’s great queer icons. \nDietrich once said\, “I dress for the image. Not for myself\, not for the public\, not for fashion\, not for men.” It is a line that captures the heart of her power. Dietrich understood the image as something she could construct\, weaponise and liberate herself through. Nowhere is that clearer than in Morocco\, where she appears in a tuxedo\, kisses a woman on screen and reshapes ideas of glamour\, desire and gender expression. \nAfter the screening\, Bath Film Festival Director Jasmine Barker chairs a conversation with an exceptional panel: \n\nCaroline Cassin\, BFI Programme Assistant\, archive cinema specialist and curator of Women and Cocaine series.\nEleanor Medhurst\, fashion historian and author of Unsuitable: A History of Lesbian Fashion\n\nTogether they will discuss how Dietrich used clothing\, image and performance to defy convention and why her legacy continues to influence drag\, fashion and queer visibility today. \nWhether you love classic film\, queer history or the artistry of self-presentation\, this event offers a powerful journey into the world of one of cinema’s most influential rebels. \nA celebration of film\, fashion and queer defiance.

SUMMARY:Queer Bath: Joelle Taylor in Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Enter the world of MARYVILLE\, exploring dyke counterculture and the queer underground.\nIn conversation with Manganaro \nIn an exclusive Queer Bath event\, T. S. Eliot and Polari Prize-winning poet Joelle Taylor joins Manganaro for an intimate in-conversation event exploring dyke counterculture with her powerful new collection ‘Maryville\,’ published by Bloomsbury. \nEnter the world of MARYVILLE\, an old butch bar in a snow globe. Joelle Taylor performs\, uniting her award winning book CUNTO and the follow up MARYVILLE\, following the lives of 4 butch friends over 50 years of resistance and rebellion. \nWith a vividly drawn cast of characters\, Maryville uses the butch bar as a lens through which to examine the underground histories of queer London. Across fifty years of resistance and rebellion\, Taylor traces the lives of four butch friends navigating love\, violence\, community and survival in awe-inspiring high definition language\, a collection as filmic as it is familiar. \nTogether\, Taylor and Manganaro will explore dyke counterculture\, queer archives\, memory\, protest and the act of conjuring lost spaces back into being. The conversation will also touch on Taylor’s landmark collection C+NTO\, winner of the T. S. Eliot Prize and the Polari Prize\, a work that redefined contemporary queer poetry. \nA night that honours both the scars and the joy of queer community\, and the bars\, streets and friendships that made survival possible. \nThis event is in collaboration with the Holburne Museum Up Late. \nAbout Joelle Taylor:\nJoelle Taylor is the author of 4 collections of poetry and one novel. Her most recent collection C+NTO & Othered Poems won the 2021 T.S Eliot Prize\, and the 2022 Polari Book Prize for LGBT authors\, and is being adapted for the theatre. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature\, and the 2022 Saboteur Spoken Word Artist of the Year. She was honoured with a DIVA Award for Outstanding Contribution and named Guardian’s Pride Power list. Her collection Maryville was recently published by Bloomsbury. \n‘Taylor’s poetry is as dangerous as it is dexterous… A wildfire blazing free’ Bernardine Evaristo \nThis event is part of the Queer Bath Up Late\nCafe and bar open all evening

SUMMARY:Sense and Sensibility

Then Jane Austen’s classic tale\, Sense and Sensibility\, gets the theatrical treatment that you need! SUMMARY:Northanger Abbey
DESCRIPTION:The power of stories.\nThe power of the imagination. \nThis summer\, Moving Parts Theatre Company brings you Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. A thrilling Gothic tale of dark deeds… or a playful\, heartwarming Regency romance… let’s find out\, shall we? \nMoving Parts Theatre Company takes a fresh\, inventive perspective on the classics. Following the huge success of last summer’s Vanity Fair\, this \nbrand new adaptation\, written and co-created by Joanna Nevin\, Martin South and Simona Hughes\, with an original score of music by Tamara Douglas-Morris and movement direction by Nevena Stojkov\, follows the fortunes of young Catherine Morland\, a wild devotee of “horrid” fiction.  Growing up in a world of balls\, bonnets and Bath society\, Catherine dreams of discovering secrets\, skeletons\, and ancient mysteries.  But does she have what it takes to become… a HEROINE? \nJoin us this summer\, as we see how her story unfolds! \nThis is an outdoor Theatre event.
