DESCRIPTION:*Doors open 6:30pm\, refreshments available in the cafe. Concert starts 7:30pm. \n  \nTwo accomplished musicians bring a sparkling programme of pieces written for the beloved instruments of the 19th century salon: the fortepiano and romantic guitar. \nThe programme will feature virtuoso and chamber music by Schubert\, Rossini\, Giuliani and others. Dominika Maszczyńska\, in her Holburne debut\, is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and the Karol Szymanowski Academy. She is a prize-winning soloist and continuo player who has worked with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra\, and the Volantes Orchestra with conductor Jos van Immerseel. \nSam Brown\, ‘the Eric Clapton of the lute’ is known to Holburne audiences for his imaginative and sensitive style. He was a student at the Royal College of Music with Jakob Lindberg\, and the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italia with Lorenzo Micheli. Sam has performed at Vienna’s Konzerthaus and London’s Wigmore Hall. He is a core member of Emma Kirkby’s ensemble Dowland Works and teaches music at the University of Bath.

Enjoy a day of creativity\, working with beautiful porcelain clay to create small hand-built pots and dishes. Learn how to decorate your surfaces with coloured slip and sgraffito. Your work will be fired and ready for collection within 1 month. \nLunch and refreshments – Hot drinks and lunch are available to purchase from the museum cafe\, however the cafe can get very busy over weekends. They have built a reputation for staging bold and vibrant productions – a fast-paced\, musically-driven style\, using all sorts of instruments\, plenty of multi-roling and many a quick costume change along the way. \nThis summer The Fools will perform come rain come shine in the great British outdoors at over 80 different venues across the UK – castles\, gardens\, stately homes\, historic barns\, National Trust properties\, village greens\, churches\, cathedrals\, museums\, arts centres\, and even a royal residence or two (indeed any place where five actors and an audience can fit!). The Three Inch Fools are in their ninth year of touring\, having so far performed at over 170 venues and to almost 100\,000 audience members.

Members are granted free entry. \nYour General Entry ticket includes entry to all exhibitions and the Collection Galleries \n“Sheer pleasure everywhere you look”\nAli Smith\, The New Statesman \nThis major exhibition celebrates Lucie Rie (1902–1995)\, one of the most accomplished and influential potters of the twentieth century. Featuring work produced across six decades\, this display follows the evolution of Rie’s distinguished career\, from some of her earliest ceramics made in her native Vienna to striking pieces from the last years of her life. \nRie’s escape from Nazi persecution to Britain in 1938 had a significant impact on her life and work. She established herself as an independent female potter in a male-dominated field\, working with the likes of Hans Coper and Bernard Leach. Her extensive technical knowledge and experimentation with glazes and firing to create different colours\, textures\, and effects\, garnered widespread admiration and left a lasting impression on an entire generation of British ceramicists. \nLucie Rie: The Adventure of Pottery is organised by Kettle’s Yard\, University of Cambridge and MIMA\, part of Teesside University\, in association with The Holburne Museum\, Bath. \nGenerously supported by the AKO Foundation and The Headley Trust \n \n   \nImage Credit: Bowl\, 1977 ©Estate of Lucie Rie
