SUMMARY:Impressions in Watercolour: Turner and his Contemporaries
DESCRIPTION:In the 250th anniversary year since his birth\, this is a rare opportunity to see some of Turner’s finest watercolours from a private collection.\n\nThe exhibition showcases Turner at his most experimental and gestural. The selection of works also place him among notable contemporaries including Thomas Girtin and John Sell Cotman\, to highlight the era of exciting developments in watercolour in which they worked. Party became interested in the work following extensive research into the Holburne’s collection after visiting in 2023. SUMMARY:Nicolas Party: Copper & Dust
DESCRIPTION:Our new installation brings together recent works by Nicolas Party. Born in Switzerland in 1980\, Party is well-known for his soft pastel works\, site-specific murals and immersive installations. The latter are influenced by his early work as a graffiti artist\, his training in graphic design and 3D animation\, and his love of 18th century pastels – examples of which feature in our collection. \n  \nWithin the exhibition\, Party’s intimate oil on copper works comprising landscapes\, still-lifes and portraits are shown in two intimate cabinet galleries. \nIn the Picture Gallery\, he has created a large-scale mural responding to one of the works in our collection: A Brawl between Peasants by Benjamin Gerritsz. Cuyp (1612–1652). Party became interested in the work following extensive research into the Holburne’s collection after visiting in 2023. DESCRIPTION:Friday 9th May \, 10am – 4pm\nClore Learning Room (ground floor of museum\, opposite the shop)\n£175 per person (includes bespoke embroidery kit and museum exhibition entry)\n  \nJoin us at the Holburne Museum on 9 May to create a fabulous floral beadwork design inspired by a rare seventeenth century Bead Basket made in England. You will also be treated to a viewing of the basket depicting Charles II next to a castle within a leafy landscape. \nDuring the class\, RSN Tutor\, Deborah Wilding will show you how to create a beaded stitched background similar to the basket work of the original and then move on to create individual wired elements matched to the flowers and animals which decorate the basket. \nYour kit will include the background fabric\, beads\, threads\, needles\, padding string\, wires and a full instruction booklet so you can complete any elements you did not complete in class. \nThis event includes entrance to the museum which you will be able to visit at lunchtime and after the class until the museum closes at 5pm. You may view many of the museum’s magnificent objects including exquisite embroideries and  Georgian portraits. \n

DESCRIPTION:Adult Screen Print Workshop – Iconic Portraiture \n\nFriday 7 March | 10am-4pm | £85 pp \n\nThis day-long workshop will take you on a deep dive into screen printing\, led by artist and printmaker Emma Gregory. Stepping into the world of iconic portraits from mid-century America\, you will recreate the same techniques used by makers of the time. Artists such as Andy Warhol and Richard Hamilton combined screen-printed photographic elements with paint to create some of their most acclaimed works. You will screen print in colour\, layering up loose and vibrant backgrounds for a stencil based on your own photograph. Expect to go home with a series of printed ‘portraits’ ready to frame. \n*Ticket includes all materials and museum entry
