SUMMARY:King Arthur
DESCRIPTION:By The Last Baguette theatre company \nDirected by John Nicholson and written by Tiff Woodsmith. \nA fun and farcical family adventure \nSomewhere in Britain\, a long time ago\, a very\, very\, very long time ago. So long ago that nobody quite knows whether it happened or not. Or where it happened or not. \nA boy pulled a sword from a stone and became King. A story of the old world\, with knights\, wizards\, mist and magic. \nThis fun and farcical adventure is a deliberately anarchic and anachronistic re-telling of the Arthurian Legend with live music\, physical comedy and lo-fi acrobatics. And some silly jokes… \nThe Last Baguette makes entertaining\, accessible and eccentric work for family audiences and are company in residence at Pound Arts\, Corsham. The Last Baguette was formed from a shared love of theatre\, bakery and humour in Paris by graduates of the Philippe Gaulier and Jacques Lecoq schools. \n“The show was a real joy…delicious twinkle-in-the-eye humour to engage\, entertain and delight people of all ages.” Richard Wolfenden-Brown\, Director at The Plough Arts Centre \nOutdoor event \nBar and food available on site \n Running Time: \n2 hours\, including an interval (first half 50 mins and second half 45 mins) \nTICKET PRICES \nAdult: £16 \nChild: £11 \nStudent: £12 \nFamily (2 Adult x 2 Child): £45 \n  \nPremier Tickets (Not available for Rascally Dinner) \nPremier ticket gets you: \n– Access to the site 30 mins before main doors\, allowing you to get your preferred spot within the garden. \n– Half a bottle of Prosecco or soft drink Alternative (per ticket) \n– Luxury Nibbles (Vegan) \n  \nPremier Ticket Adult: £30 \nPremier Ticket Child: £25 \nPremier Ticket Family (2 Adult x 2 Child): £75

SUMMARY:Hero & Leander\, Or\, I Love you\, But Everything’s Under Water
DESCRIPTION:by Jack Dean & Company \nSix multi-instrumentalists tell an epic seaside tale through songs encompassing folk\, indie\, sea shanties and choral music. A story of bad rulers\, worse weather\, and how we keep going when everything is flipping terrible. \nTwo towns\, one rich and one poor\, stand separated by a narrow strip of ocean. When the borders close and ships stop sailing between them\, two lovers are left stranded on either side. Unphased\, Leander takes to swimming across the channel to meet Hero\, guided by the light of the lighthouse where she lives. But the jealous and vengeful Hephaestus\, carrying an ancient grudge\, plots to separate them with a flood like neither town has ever seen. \nWe all know this will probably end badly. SUMMARY:Julie Madly Deeply
DESCRIPTION:by Sarah-Louise Young \nMusical direction from Michael Roulston \nDirected by Russell Lucas \nThe hills are alive with the return of this critically acclaimed Off Broadway and West  End hit. \nEven your critic found herself\, unprecedentedly\, singing along. My cheeks hurt with  smiling.’ **** Daily Telegraph \n Adored by millions\, Dame Julie Andrews is a genuine showbiz icon. This charming  yet cheeky cabaret takes an engaging look at fame and fandom\, through the eyes and  voice of award-winning performer Sarah-Louise Young (Fascinating Aida\, An  Evening Without Kate Bush\, La Soirée\, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical). \nJulie’s songs from musicals including Mary Poppins\, The Sound of Music and My  Fair Lady are intertwined with stories and anecdotes about Andrews’ own life\, from  her beginnings as a child star to the more recent challenges of losing her famous  singing voice. What emerges is a delightfully funny and candid love letter to a true  show business survivor. \n‘The hills are alive with the sound of singalongs and gags in this witty\, affectionate  tribute.’ **** Evening Standard \n Sarah-Louise is joined at the piano by long-term collaborator\, Michael Roulston. Together they have created numerous award-winning shows including Songs For Cynics\, Songs For Lovers (And Other Idiots)\, Je Regrette! and Two Faced. \n‘Dame Julie\, you suspect\, would approve. This is an evening that ends in triumph\, not  in tears.’ **** The Times \nRun time: 70 Minutes\n(This performance takes place outside) \nBar and Food available in the grounds. \nTICKET PRICES \nAdult: £16\nChild: £11\nStudent: £12\nFamily (2 Adult x 2 Child): £45 \nPremier Tickets (Not available for Rascally Dinner)\nPremier ticket gets you:\n– Access to the site 30 mins before main doors\, allowing you to get your preferred spot within the garden.\n– Half a bottle of Prosecco or soft drink Alternative (per ticket)\n– Luxury Nibbles (Vegan) \nPremier Ticket Adult: £30\nPremier Ticket Child: £25\nPremier Ticket Family (2 Adult x 2 Child): £75

SUMMARY:Joana Vasconcelos: The enduring legacy of embroidery in contemporary art
DESCRIPTION:Visual artist Joana Vasconcelos is renowned for her monumental sculptures\, drawing\, film and textiles. She updates the arts & crafts concept to the 21st century and incorporates everyday objects with irony and humour\, creating a bridge between domestic environment and public space while questioning the status of women\, consumerism society and collective identity. Inspired by our display of seventeenth-century embroidery Joana will discuss that\, in spite of the notion of needlework as a domestic pastime rather than artistic endeavour\, it has an enduring legacy in contemporary art. \nBook your FREE ticket via eventbrite

SUMMARY:David Hockney Love Life Drawings 1963 to 1977
DESCRIPTION:Book your tickets in advance or pay on arrival. If you’re a member there’s no need to pre-book.\nYour General Entry ticket includes entry to all exhibitions and the collection \nA sumptuous collection of rarely seen drawings by one of our most popular and recognisable artists\n\nThe Telegraph  ⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Hockney at his most irresistible” Lucy Davies \nFinancial Times “David Hockney’s genius is distilled in the mesmerising show ‘Love Life’… Some of the most glorious drawings of the 20th century are to be found in an intimate\, fizzing encounter with the artist… a very sexy show… ‘Love Life’ looks back\, forward\, celebrates the present and — especially when followed by lunch in the Holburne’s magnificent garden — is as life-affirming as its title implies.” Jackie Wullschlager \nIn 2017\, prior to the opening of a retrospective exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris\, David Hockney (b.1937) painted the words ‘Love Life’ on the final wall of the show. Explaining his actions\, he said: “I love my work. And I think the work has love\, actually … I love life. I write it at the end of letters – ‘Love life\, David Hockney.” \nThat simple exhortation is a now common refrain for the artist\, who regularly appeals for people to enjoy the simple beauty of the world around them. Although Hockney’s love of life has been exemplified through recent bodies of work\, such as depicting the progress of spring in his native Yorkshire (2011-13) and\, most recently\, in Normandy (2020)\, the Holburne’s new exhibition will demonstrate how Hockney’s ‘Love Life’ dictum has underpinned his art since the 1960s. \nHockney’s delight in the world is no better demonstrated than in the drawings he made in the late 1960s and 1970s. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to marvel at his extraordinary power of observation and skill in using tiny\, mundane details to help capture a situation\, a sitter’s character\, or a place. \nCounterbalancing his more everyday subjects\, Hockney’s depictions of his friends remind us of the elevated circles he was already moving in during the formative stages of his career\, including three great writers of the 1930s (seen in later life)\, W.H. Auden (1907-1973)\, Christopher Isherwood (1904-1986) and Stephen Spender (1909-1995)\, the aforementioned Peter Langan (1941-1988)\, plus Celia Birtwell (b.1941) and Ossie Clark (1942-1996)\, the subjects of one of his most iconic paintings\, Mr. and Mrs. Clark and Percy (1971). \nDon’t Miss\nBruno Wollheim in Conversation with Chris Stephens\nChris Stephens Love Life lecture \nGenerously supported by: \n \nWith Additional Support from Kathryn Uhde\nAnd the Love Life: David Hockney Supporters Circle:\nHamish Parker  Lydia & Manfred GorvyStuart & Bianca RodenClore WyndhamThomas Gibson Fine Art Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert \nThe Holburne Director’s Circle\, Patrons and Friends \nDavid Hockney\n"Ossie Wearing a Fairisle Sweater" 1970\nColored pencil on paper\n17 x 14"\n© David Hockney\nPhoto Credit: Fabrice Gibert

SUMMARY:Marvellous Makers\, Wondrous Worlds Raised Embroidery from the 17th century
DESCRIPTION:Book your day ticket in advance here  or just turn up on the day and purchase entry tickets at our Information desk. (Friends and Members no need to book in advance). \nYour General Entry ticket includes entry to all exhibitions and the collection \nRegardless of their social status\, most women were expected to be competent at needlework during the 17th-century\, but only a privileged few were able to afford the time or materials to make decorative embroidered pictures. Most were made by young\, highly skilled non-professional needlewomen in wealthy households and were designed to display their mastery of the craft. Described as ‘curious work’ by its contemporaries\, raised embroidery was considered unfashionable in the eighteenth century\, despised through most of the nineteenth and reassessed in the twentieth\, and it was passed down mainly by women who preserved the legacy of their female forebears. \nThe Holburne Museum has an important collection of raised embroidery and other 17th-century textiles. A focussed loan exhibition in the Wirth Gallery will complement and highlight the significance of this part of the collection through a jewel-like show that will allow visitors to look closely at these exceptional objects. \nAmong the topics addressed in the exhibition will be the gender bias of this form of art\, the divide between domestic crafts and the more prestigious and public-facing textile art\, the connections between the materials employed and the trade relationships of the period\, and the enduring legacy of embroidery in contemporary material culture. \nThere will be a free online talk to accompany the show with Joana Vasconcelos at 7pm 20 June. \nWe also have a workshop in partnership with the Royal School of Needlework 3 September. \n\nThis exhibition has been kindly supported by: \n \nThe Broderers’ Charity Trust \n \nNicholas and Judith Goodison Charitable Settlement\nAnd those who wish to remain anonymous.

SUMMARY:Holburne Open Joshua Donkor
DESCRIPTION:2022 I have more souls than one \n“People and stories are ultimately what influences my work\, this is why I often describe my practice as visual narration. A lot of the work I make is also deeply personal and stems from my family history\, particularly my Fathers upbringing our Ghanaian heritage.\nThe new body of work I’m currently developing seeks to explore transcultural and African Diasporic experiences in the Western world and how this is felt through the different generations of family.\nThis project stemmed from my most recent journey back to Ghana at the start of 2022 with my cousin.\nAs we have grown older our relationship with Ghana has continued to evolve. 2022 represented somewhat of a passing of the torch as my cousin was expected to take on more responsibilities within her family.\nThis brought into focus many questions about our relationship and connection to Ghana as members of the African Diaspora. Although we have grown up with many Ghanaian cultural influences within our lives\, unlike our parents and those before\, we have not grown up there.\nThis has led to a feeling of slight disconnection from our heritage\, felt most notably whenever we return.\nThese new portraits include a range of image transfer techniques which blend archival family images dating back decades with glimpses of the present taken from my most recent journey back to Ghana.\nThis acts as a representation of all the generations\, time periods and memories that have informed our past\, and which will continue to influence our future.” \nJoshua Donkor \nOpening times\nThe Gallery at the Edge\, University of Bath\, is free to enter and is open from Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 4pm.\nThe Edge will be closed from 2 to 5 June.\nAlso on show David Robertson
