SUMMARY:Day trip to Tewkesbury Abbey and Hereford Cathedral
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1087\, Tewkesbury Abbey dominates the surrounding floodplains. Its 45m tall bell tower is the largest such Norman structure standing. Tewkesbury is famous too for its medieval and Victorian stained glass. More recently Tom Denny designed two stained glass windows to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the Abbey’s foundation. Hereford Cathedral is home to the Mappa Mundi\, the largest medieval map remaining in the world\, dating to about 1300. The map is laid out with Jerusalem at the centre\, with east at the top and the Garden of Eden shown on one side. The Cathedral’s Chained Library is a unique treasure with 229 medieval manuscripts\, the oldest being the 8th century Hereford Gospels\, as old as the cathedral itself. \n*Price £75 to include return private coach transport\, a private tour of Tewkesbury Abbey\, light buffet lunch at Hereford Cathedral and private tours of the Cathedral\, the Chained Library and the Mappa Mundi exhibition.

SUMMARY:The Holburne Quiz
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce that Howard Davies\, Holburne’s Quizmaster par excellence\, is kindly returning to Bath with a brand new quiz on matters cultural\, frivolous\, tantalising and arcane! Howard has been inspired by Bob Holness’s immortal Blockbusters phrase “I’ll have a ‘P’ please” – each quiz category begins with a ‘P’. So whether peoples’ passion is for politics\, pianos\, police\, Paris or people called Peter\, there should be pleasure and puzzlement partout. There will be picture rounds\, a ‘jeopardy’ round\, and if technology allows\, a musical round. Test your grey cells and bring out your funny bones for a delightful and convivial evening. \n*Tickets £35 each\, which includes the evening’s entertainment\, delicious wines\, soft drinks\, cheese and charcuterie.

SUMMARY:Gillian Lowndes: Radical Clay
DESCRIPTION:Book your tickets in advance or pay on arrival. Members are granted free entry. \nYour General Entry ticket includes entry to all exhibitions and the Collection Galleries. \n  \nOne of the art world’s best kept secrets\, we are thrilled to present the work of Gillian Lowndes to a wider audience. \nGillian Lowndes (1936-2010) was one of the most daring and original artists of the post-war period. Though she trained as a potter\, her work hovers between craft and fine art\, pottery and sculpture. Often incorporating found objects into her practice\, her unorthodox methods involved dipping materials in clay to be fired\, burying work in sand and destroying fired pieces with a hammer\, only to reassemble them again with ceramic mortar. \nFocusing on Lowndes’ work from the 1980s to the 2000s\, the exhibition showcases a small number of tabletop and wall pieces which reflect the breadth of her practice in the last decades of her career and demonstrates the radical ways in which she stretched and subverted ceramic practice. \nSupported by The Sunday Painter\n \n  \n  \n  \nOfficial Paint Partner: \n \n  \n  \n  \nGillian Lowndes\, Almost off the Wall\, 2001. SUMMARY:Lubaina Himid: Lost Threads
DESCRIPTION:Book your tickets in advance or pay on arrival. Members are granted free entry. \nYour General Entry ticket includes entry to all exhibitions and the Collection Galleries. \n  \nBorn in Zanzibar in 1954\, Lubaina Himid is a British artist who has dedicated her four-decades-long career to uncovering marginalised and silenced histories\, figures\, and cultural expressions. \nIn a practice that includes paintings\, prints\, drawings and installations\, she has addressed the histories and legacies of colonialism and slavery and engages with political questions and artistic traditions from the eighteenth century to the present day. \nWeaving and flowing across the front façade and around the permanent collections\, Lubaina Himid’s Lost Threads will see 400 metres of vibrant Dutch wax fabric transform the spaces of the Holburne Museum. \nReflecting the movement of the oceans and rivers that have been used to transport cotton\, yarn and enslaved people throughout history\, Lost Threads traces the paradoxes of textile production and circulation by engaging with its material implications. \nThe Holburne Future Collective interviewed Lubaina Himid about her work at the Holburne and young people in the arts. SUMMARY:Winter Revels: A Tudor Nöel
DESCRIPTION:  \nFollowing their sell-out concert at the Holburne last year\, the singers of Dowland Youth Works return with a programme of skits and songs to evoke a Tudor yuletide. They will be accompanied by their directors – the singer and conductor Laurence Williams\, and Sam Brown on the lute. \nNow in its third year\, Dowland Youth Works is an early music course aimed at encouraging talented young musicians. Under the generous aegis of Dame Emma Kirkby and Peterborough’s Orchard House\, the scheme delights audiences and attendees alike. \nThis evening promises to be a special occasion of delightful singing and music-making with a festive theme. \n*Doors open at 6.30pm with the concert beginning at 7.30pm. Pay bar available until concert begins.
