SUMMARY:Gluck's Flowers
DESCRIPTION:In 1930’s Britain one artist is living and creating rebelliously outside of the social and gender norm. Gluck. \nNo Prefix. No suffix. No quotes. \nA hugely talented artist\, idiosyncratic Gluck lived by nobody’s rules but their own\, and when celebrity florist Constance Spry walked into their studio with a delivery\, a scandalously queer\, tempestuous relationship began. This relationship would challenge gender\, class and social mores\, and was to produce some of the most stunning paintings of the era. \nBristol’s award-winning new writing company Theatre West are delighted to present a new play set in the 1930s about a real relationship that still feels pertinent today. \n \n

SUMMARY:Henry Moore in Miniature
DESCRIPTION:Book your tickets in advance or pay on arrival. General Entry tickets include all exhibitions and the Collection Galleries. Members free. \n  \nThe Holburne Museum is delighted to present Henry Moore in Miniature\, a survey of Moore’s sculptural output from his earliest works through to his last years\, in which nothing is more than 30cm in size. The first exhibition of its kind\, it will include works from every decade of Moore’s career\, from the 1920s to the 1980s. \nAt the heart of Moore’s practice from his earliest years to the end was the directness of working on a small scale\, whether it was carving small stones or pieces of wood\, casting lead\, modelling in clay or\, as was usual in later years\, modelling in plasticine or plaster around a found stone or bone to be cast in bronze. \nPresented in partnership with the Henry Moore Foundation\, Henry Moore in Miniature will include over 60 of Moore’s works that can fit in the hand.  The exhibition will include maquettes for some of his best-known\, public sculptures alongside lesser-known works\, including the display for the very first time in a museum exhibition of a recently discovered early lead cast of Mother & Child.\n\n\n \nExhibition Sponsor: \n \nWith additional support from: \n \nDon and Jennifer Robert\nThe Holburne Directors’ Circle\, Patrons and Friends \nOfficial Paint Partner: \n \n  \nImage credit: Henry Moore\, Recumbent Figure\, 1938. SUMMARY:Stanley Spencer: Sandham Memorial Chapel and The Spencer Gallery in Cookham
DESCRIPTION:Stanley Spencer’s fervent\, if somewhat unconventional Christian faith\, was frequently reflected in his work\, and was regarded as controversial when it was first exhibited- This was especially true of his paintings set in Cookham\, where Spencer lived much of his adult life. The Spencer Gallery provides a unique insight into the man\, the artist and his work. We first visit Spencer’s paintings at Sandham Memorial Chapel – a colossal undertaking\, which. was modelled on Giotto’s Arena Chapel in Padua. Seventeen huge canvases depict Spencer’s experiences during World War I\, commissioned by Mary and John Behrend\, to commemorate Mary’s brother who was killed in the conflict. \n*Price £85 to include return private coach transport\, private access and tour of the Sandham Memorial Chapel\, lunch and private talk and tour of the Spencer Gallery

SUMMARY:The Holburne Quiz
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce that Howard Davies\, Holburne’s Quizmaster par excellence\, is kindly returning to Bath with a brand new quiz on matters cultural\, frivolous\, tantalising and arcane! Howard has been inspired by Bob Holness’s immortal Blockbusters phrase “I’ll have a ‘P’ please” – each quiz category begins with a ‘P’. So whether peoples’ passion is for politics\, pianos\, police\, Paris or people called Peter\, there should be pleasure and puzzlement partout. There will be picture rounds\, a ‘jeopardy’ round\, and if technology allows\, a musical round. Test your grey cells and bring out your funny bones for a delightful and convivial evening. \n*Tickets £35 each\, which includes the evening’s entertainment\, delicious wines\, soft drinks\, cheese and charcuterie.
