SUMMARY:Garden Theatre Festival: As You Like It
DESCRIPTION:Garden Theatre Festival Present The Duke’s Theatre Company acclaimed ‘As You Like It’ in a POP UP festival bonus this August! \n\n\n\n\nAbout this event \n…look into happiness through another man’s eyes!” \nThe ancient Forest of Arden serves as the backdrop for Shakespeare’s most famous and quotable comedy. \nWhen Rosalind is banished from Duke Ferdinand’s court\, new identities are explored with hilarious consequences. Music\, mayhem and madness thrill as we are shown that “All the world’s a stage”. \nBack for a fourth Summer Season\, The Duke’s Theatre Company follow their acclaimed tours of Romeo and Juliet\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night with As You Like It. \nKevin Bennett\, (Shakespeare’s Globe\, Stratford/Shaw Festival\, Ontario) directs this brand-new production that will visit fifty of the UK’s most magical venues \nThis As You Like It will live on in your memory“forever and a day”. \n— \nThe Garden Theatre Festival present this pop-up special outside of their regular programming. \nThese events are still evenings of delightful theatre but without all of our main festival infrastructure. But don’t worry\, the bar and snack bar is still open! \n— \nThe Garden Theatre Festival is Bath’s only purpose-built open-air theatre festival\, with the main festival events running from the 10th – 21st July 2024. \nTaking place in the magical gardens of the Holburne Museum\, expect two weeks of superb performances from nationally renowned companies\, in our beautiful\, open-air thrust stage space\, with something for all of the family to enjoy. \ngardentheatrefest.co.uk

SUMMARY:Stratfield Saye: The home of the Duke of Wellington
DESCRIPTION:*Please note that this event will be taking place on 25 July and not 24 July as misprinted in Holburne News Summer 2024* \nWe are fortunate to have secured exclusive private access to Stratfield Saye House and Gardens\, home to the Dukes of Wellington since 1818. \nFollowing the Battle of Waterloo\, the First Duke of Wellington or the Great Duke as he was known\, was regarded as the saviour of his country and Europe. A grateful nation voted a substantial sum of money to enable him to buy a house and an estate worthy of a great national hero. \nAfter considering many far grander properties he chose Stratfield Saye\, the exterior of which is “deceptively domestic”\, while the interior has a stately quality with a sumptuous Library. \nThe house\, which is lived in today by the 9th Duke of Wellington and his family\, contains a fascinating collection of paintings and furniture purchased by the Great Duke with many mementos of his life and military career. Our group will also be given a private 20 minute talk on the first Duke’s famous funeral carriage. \n*Price £85 to include private coach transport\, a full day at Stratfield Saye House and gardens where we have private access\, a private guided tour of the house\, arrival refreshments and lunch.
