Discover the artistic legacy of the classical world. Pupils will:

  • learn how Grand Tours helped to spread ideas in 18th and early 19th century Europe
  • explore Greek myths depicted in paintings, sculpture and ceramics
  • make a clay plaque or painted plate inspired by artefacts in the Museum

Roman Gods and Goddesses

Discover the legacies of Roman gods and goddesses in art. Pupils will:-

  • learn how the classical world and it’s influences spread around the world
  • explore Roman myths, gods and goddesses depicted in paintings, sculpture and ceramics
  • learn relief and hand building skills to make a clay plaque representing a Roman god or goddess and their powers

Portraits

Perfect Portraits

Explore the Holburne’s wonderful portrait collection through drawing, costume and creative activities and discover what portraits can tell us about the sitters, the artists and their times. Pupils will:

  • learn to ‘read’ a portrait
  • make observational sketches in the gallery
  • create a unique Georgian-style self-portrait with watercolour pencils and collage

Sensing Sculpture

Sensing Sculpture

An introduction to sculpture through an exploration of the Holburne’s rich and varied collection. Pupils will:

  • observe and draw original artefacts
  • discuss the language and ideas of sculpture through real examples
  • explore the techniques of 3D modelling to make a figurative sculpture using clay
