‘Lost Threads’, on display in the Picture Gallery and Ballroom, continues Lubaina Himid’s life-long exploration into the making of clothing and histories of colonisation, female labour, migration and globalisation, work for which the artist was awarded the Turner Prize in 2017.
Inspired by the vibrant colours and intricate patterns of ‘African’ cloth, Himid’s ‘Kanga’ paintings and theatre design, this workshop adopts a playful approach to screen printing individual short lengths of cotton to create a personalized yoke or head dress. With conceptual artist Emma Gregory.
